oil painting of the head of a zebra

Lucky Stripes: 2014, Pastel

This painting is based on a zebra photo taken in deep shadow. When I made the print, I saw purple shades in his dark stripes and ears, which I tried to capture in the painting.

oil painting of the head of a male lion

Lion Eyes: 2017, Acrylic

The original photo of this mature male lion was taken from a long distance away. Typically, a large male with a full mane is the dominant one in the pride and is responsible for defending the pride and its territory. In this painting, I followed my artist-daughter's advice and painted the eyes first ... thus, the title!
