The Physician-Focused Payment Model Technical Advisory Committee (PTAC) — an independent federal advisory committee created to make recommendations to the secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services about physician-focused payment models (PFPMs) — met Sept. 27 to discuss social determinants of health (SDOH). The meeting focused on how efforts to address SDOH and equity can be further optimized in the context of alternative payment models (APMs) and PFPMs in the Medicare program.
During the meeting, guest speakers were invited to discuss several models focused on SDOH. Since 2016, nine of 35 submitted PFPMs included components related to SDOH. Subject matter experts were invited to discuss SDOH in PFPMs.
