Legislation to Neutralize Medicare Payment Cuts Introduced

Legislation to shield physicians from Medicare reimbursement reductions associated with the CY 2023 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS) proposed rule was introduced in the House on Sept. 13 by Reps. Ami Bera, MD (D-CA), and Larry Bucshon, MD (R-IN). The Supporting Medicare Providers Act of 2022 (H.R. 8800) would offset a scheduled Jan. 1, 2023, 4.42% Medicare physician fee payment cut with a 4.42% increase in the MPFS conversion factor formula.

The American College of Radiology® (ACR®) is in the process of gathering signatories from other medical specialty organizations to thank the bill’s co-sponsors and indicate strong support for the passage of the legislation. This ACR-led effort is expected to garner over 100 groups on the letter. In addition to legislation to offset the MPFS cuts, the provider community is working to enact inflationary adjustments to Medicare physician payments for 2023.

ACR members should be on the lookout for a congressional Call to Action (CTA) in the coming days asking them to contact their representative to cosponsor H.R. 8800.
