ACR Submits Official Comments on IPPS Proposed Rule

The American College of Radiology® (ACR®) submitted official comments to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) June 17, regarding the federal fiscal year (FY) 2023 Hospital Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) proposed rule. The IPPS pays a flat rate based on the average charges across all hospitals for a specific diagnosis, even if the treatment for a particular patient costs more or less.

The ACR supports CMS’ proposal to establish a new supplemental payment for Indian Health Service/Tribal hospitals and hospitals located in Puerto Rico. The ACR is concerned about the health disparities experienced in Puerto Rico and wants to work with CMS and stakeholders to improve its health equity.

The ACR also supports CMS’ focus on health disparities. As part of the Radiology Health Equity Coalition, the ACR is committed to positively impacting health care equity in the radiology field and addressing the challenges in the practice of radiological care to reduce inequities in underserved communities.
