ACR Releases Radiology-Specific Summary of HOPPS Proposed Rule

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released its 2023 Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System (HOPPS) Proposed Rule July 15. The American College of Radiology® (ACR®) has prepared a radiology-specific preliminary summary of the proposed rule, which updates the HOPPS conversion factor and imaging ambulatory payment classification (APC) proposed payment rates and introduces potential use of C-codes (temporary codes for use with Medicare’s Outpatient Prospective Payment System) for Software as a Service (SaaS).

CMS in its press release says the proposed rule includes proposals that align with several key goals of the Biden Administration, including advancing health equity in rural areas, promoting competition in the healthcare system, and promoting safe, effective and patient-centered care. The agency also created a 2023 HOPPS fact sheet.

The College continues to review the proposed rule and will provide a detailed summary in the coming days. If you have questions, contact Kimberly Greck, ACR Economic Policy Analyst.
