ACR Rebuffs Wyoming Board of Medicine Consideration of Proposal to Eliminate Physician Supervision

The American College of Radiology® (ACR®) sent a letter to the Wyoming Board of Medicine reinforcing the American Society of Anesthesiologists’ (ASA) opposition to the medical board’s consideration of a proposal to eliminate mandatory physician supervision of nurse anesthetists in hospitals with 25 or fewer beds.

Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon recently requested input from the Wyoming medical and nursing boards as well as the Wyoming Department of Health regarding opting out of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Service (CMS) physician supervision requirement of nurse anesthetists in hospitals with 25 or fewer beds. The ACR stands in support of ASA and other medical specialties in conveying the complexities in highly specialized medical procedures and the necessity to maintain patient safety through appropriate physician supervision.
