CMS Seeks Public Comment on Cost Measure Development

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is seeking input on a new wave of cost measures being proposed for addition to the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS). Cost measures are the cost of services provided to Medicare patients related to a hospital stay and those for items or services provided during 18 episodes of care. Historically, the cost performance category has not been attributed to radiologists because there have been no applicable measures. However, CMS is now considering the addition of a measure related to mammography, which would mean that some radiologists may begin to be attributed a cost performance score.

Public comments are due by April 1 and can be submitted using this Acumen survey.
