HHS Requests Comments on Health Information Exchange

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC) and HHS contractor The Sequoia Project have announced several opportunities to provide comments that may be of interest to the radiology IT and informatics community. Opportunities include

  • The ONC requests submissions of new data elements and classes to inform the third version of the U.S. Core Data for Interoperability. The USCDI is a standardized set of health data classes and constituent data elements for nationwide health information exchange. The deadline to submit comments is Sept. 30.
  • The ONC requests comments on the Interoperability Standards Advisory (ISA) 2022 Reference Edition. ISA is a catalog of voluntary standards and corresponding implementation specifications to meet specific interoperability needs in healthcare. It includes several radiology interoperability topics, including image exchange. The deadline to submit comments is Sept. 30.
  • The Sequoia Project published a draft Qualified Health Information Network Technical Framework for stakeholder feedback. This document would support the network-to-network exchange goals of the ONC’s TEFCA initiative. The deadline to submit comments is Sept. 17.

The American College of Radiology® (ACR®) Commission on Informatics is reviewing and may respond to the requests for comment.
