The American College of Radiology® (ACR®) has produced a detailed summary of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) 2022 Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System (HOPPS) proposed rule released July 19. The rule updates payment rates, the Hospital Outpatient Quality Reporting Programs and the radiation oncology (RO) model.
The RO model is proposed to be mandatory for RO service providers in randomly selected core-based statistical areas. It is designed to qualify as an advanced alternative payment model in CMS’ Quality Payment Program. The RO model start date was delayed to Jan. 1, with a five-year model performance period that ends Dec. 31, 2026.
CMS is accepting comments on the proposed rule until Sept. 17. The ACR now is developing comments.
