The American College of Radiology® (ACR®) seeks concepts for measure development. Measure concepts are requested regardless of their stage of development (e.g., from high-level ideas to detailed measures in use). The ACR Measurement Strategy Group made up of leaders from the Quality and Safety Commission and Economic Commission, will review submitted measure concepts. Those concepts meeting the criteria for high priority will be charged for development or refinement by the ACR Quality and Safety Commission’s Metrics Committee, ACR’s standing measure development group.
The measure concepts developed or refined by the Metrics Committee into fully formed measures are intended for use in the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS), either through the ACR Qualified Clinical Data Registry (QCDR) or as a MIPS clinical quality measure (CQM). Both measure reporting pathways are directly linked to physician payment under CMS' MIPS regulation.

Measures currently are under development based on evidence recommendations for Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm and improving standardized reporting of dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) scans. Measure concept submissions from the General, Small, Emergency and/or Rural Practice Commission’s (GSER) Quality and Safety Committee and the Economics Commission’s Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA) Committee spurred these measure development projects.
