Last year, the ACR ramped up its coverage of the issues that matter most to members — including AI, fair reimbursement, equitable access to screening, the pipeline of new talent to radiology, consolidation, the workforce conundrum and more.
As we reflect on 2025, the ACR stands firm as the primary advocacy organization for our members, their practices and patients, and the entire Radiology community. That’s Radiology with a big “R” to include our colleagues in diagnostic and interventional radiology, radiation oncology, medical physics, and nuclear medicine. In 2025, we made notable progress in advancing our specialty. This 2025 Impact Report provides a snapshot of these achievements — with the needs and interests of our members at the heart of everything we do.
This year, we tackled some of the most pressing issues facing our profession through our relentless advocacy efforts. We championed fair valuation of our members’ work and fought to support NIH funding and robust clinical research. Alongside our ACR chapters, the College assisted with state legislative efforts on everything from scope of practice to access to life-saving screening.
Technology is rapidly reshaping our field, and ACR continued to lead the way through this transformation. The College honed its focus on the safe and effective integration of AI into real-world clinical practice, expanded and strengthened quality and safety initiatives, and produced a host of research on topics that shape our specialty.
Education remained a cornerstone of our value to members. From helping residents understand radiologic-pathologic correlation at the AIRP to equipping seasoned radiologists with leadership skills through RLI programs, the College provided training for our membership at every career level — with ease of use and accessibility in mind to fit busy schedules.
Of course, none of these achievements would be possible without the work of our more than 2,000 member volunteers. Whether you are a practicing physician or physicist, still in training, or a retired ACR member, your engagement fuels our collective impact. The College and its chapters celebrated an abundance of advocacy wins in 2025.
ACR led a coalition of more than 100 provider organizations to avert payment cuts. ACR Economics Commission action, member site surveys, research and advocacy combined reclaimed approximately $1.75 billion in Medicare radiology reimbursement since 2021.
ACR continued to champion the Radiology Outpatient Ordering Transmission (ROOT) Act introduced in 2025 in both the Senate and House. The legislation seeks Congressional intervention to modernize and update the Appropriate Use Criteria section of the Protecting Access to Medicare (PAMA) Act — allowing CMS to fully implement the Appropriate Use Criteria program in Medicare Part B. If implemented, the program will improve patient care, lower patient costs and reduce burnout for radiologists.
ACR stopped harmful Scope of Practice expansion legislation in 21 states and successfully advocated against efforts to enable nonphysicians to become B readers in federal occupational health programs.
The College’s advocacy team helped secure and protect billions in funding for critical NIH research in 2025 through outreach to Congressional appropriators and agencies.
ACR created the ACR Advocacy Curriculum to develop confident, informed advocates capable of advancing patient care, protecting the profession and shaping health policy at the local, state and national levels.
ACR’s Commission on Economics is a primary resource for medical socioeconomics. The Commission’s work is used to advance congressional and state legislative efforts championed by the College and to communicate with CMS, policymakers and insurers.

ARCH-AI, the first national AI quality assurance program for radiology facilities, expanded to 29 organizations and now includes international participation. At RSNA 2025, ARCH-AI was officially launched globally with its first onboarded site: Bern University Hospital, Switzerland.
Assess-AI, the first quality registry for monitoring AI, expanded to 24 facilities in 2025, including some of the largest healthcare organizations in the U.S.
ACR Connect, a local gateway that allows sites to exchange data on a free platform for ACR activities such as clinical research, education and ACR registries, expanded in 2025. ACR Connect makes it possible to use AI and other advanced computation processes while data remains at a local facility, and ACR Connect now has an installed base that supports more than 2,500 facilities nationwide.
AI Central, the most complete and up-to-date online, searchable directory of commercially available Imaging AI products in the U.S., went through a design and functionality overhaul in 2025. The site is now freely accessible and has an enhanced search function.
In 2025, there were seven Resident and Fellow Section (RFS) committees and subcommittees, covering areas such as education, government relations, artificial intelligence, economics and other topics relevant to future leaders across radiology, radiation oncology, medical physics, and nuclear medicine. More than 125 residents and fellows served on ACR commissions and committees, helping shape policy, guide advocacy priorities and build their leadership skills and networks. Trainees are encouraged to volunteer for a committee, subcommittee or advisory group and to connect with peers on Facebook, Instagram, X and Engage.
In 2025, the ACR Young and Early Career Professional Section on (YPS) partnered with the ACR Bulletin on the creation of a new column to feature recurring YPS-relevant content for ACR members. The inaugural installment was published in October 2025. YPS represents 6,566 ACR members under the age of 40 or within eight years of the completion of training.
The ACR ACR Medical Student Section is dedicated to encouraging medical students to consider radiology as a career path. In 2025, the ACR continued to strengthen the radiology pipeline through expanded engagement, leadership development and early education initiatives.

Through its Quality and Safety offerings, the ACR promotes quality in the practice of radiology, radiation oncology, interventional radiology, nuclear medicine and medical physics. In 2025, new offerings focused on ease of use, updated standards and knowledge sharing.
The one-stop portal for health systems to view and manage their engagement with all ACR programs and activities went live in April 2025. This portal could include participation in registries, AI programs or accreditation. Any organization with multiple locations and products with ACR will benefit from this service — including reducing manual work facilities have been doing offline.
Published in October, the manual delivers a standardized, easy‑to‑implement quality control program for PET imaging. This manual helps facilities ensure consistent scanner performance, reliable quantitative measurements and high‑quality patient imaging while supporting accreditation readiness and regulatory compliance.
The Learning Network continued to train facilities in process improvement and supported local improvement. Nine participating sites submitted abstracts to RSNA 2025 describing their success and all nine were accepted. The projects help groups solve difficult problems, build employee morale and earn academic currency for quality improvement.
Accreditation continues to serve more than 38,000 accredited entities. The reformulated DICOE program recognizes groups for and markets their efforts toward improvement and excellence.
39 documents moved forward in 2025; 31 will be up for approval at ACR’s Annual Meeting, including three new documents. These documents provide guidance that institutions use to inform their practices.
ACR’s National Radiology Data Registry Qualified Clinical Data Registry (QCDR) has been approved for 2025 MIPS reporting with 5 new measures for a total of 58 measures. The ACR QCDR enabled submission of measures to CMS for 5,821 physicians across 241 groups, supporting their CMS reimbursement.

The ACR Institute for Radiologic Pathology™ (AIRP®) offers a unique radiology training experience for residents, fellows and practicing radiologists.
In 2025, AIRP expanded its portfolio with new, member-centered innovations designed to support earlier and more equitable access to high-quality training. The new AIRP Case Review Webinars, tailored for R1–R2 residents and medical students, drew more than 249 participants in their inaugural year.
AIRP also launched the ACR Career Fair during the March four-week course, connecting ACR members with trainees seeking guidance on post-residency next steps.
The College published a JACR Special Issue on Screening (March 2025), providing innovative original research on imaging-based screening for cancer, benign conditions, and high-risk outcomes — as well as reviews of cutting-edge imaging techniques for screening. JACR also published a Lung Cancer Screening Special Issue (December 2025) in collaboration with the American Cancer Society National Lung Cancer Roundtable. This issue highlights the shift toward lung cancer as a treatable, survivable disease.
The JACR Author Interview Project, hosted by Join Luh, MD, takes listeners behind the scenes of the JACR to learn more about the authors of the articles and what drives their work, research and writing.
Hosted by Madison Wulfeck, MD, and Jeff Waltz, MD, Contrast and Clarity with the JACR explores current topics and innovations shaping the future of healthcare.
The ACR Bulletin continued publishing must-read articles on the hot-button issues impacting the specialty.
A revealing piece on what consolidation may mean for your practice — from economies of scale to using the same terminology when discussing the subject — emphasizes the importance of knowing the difference between private equity, mergers and acquisitions and corporatization when discussing consolidation.
The Bulletin also featured an article on how to compose and submit a resolution ahead of ACR’s Annual Meeting. These resolutions influence policies impacting radiology and related specialties, securing funding for research, reimbursement trends and advocacy efforts by the College.
The Bulletin launched two new regular columns — Chapter Connections and YPS: Early to Rise. These new forums are indicative of the College’s commitment to engage with younger members — gleaning their perspectives on the challenges and opportunities within the house of radiology — and to encourage all members to get involved with initiatives underway in ACR chapters.
Launched our member-first website that streamlines learning while leveraging filters for modalities, subspecialties, career stage, format and CME-eligibility; connects related resources; showcases advocacy wins; and delivers faster, smarter tools empowering radiologists to thrive in rapidly evolving practice environments. The improved user experience has increased visits to acr.org by 145% since launch.
The College secured messaging in the New York Times, Washington Post and 1,000 other news articles, successfully educating decision-makers, medical students and the public that AI is helping radiologists improve patient care — not replacing radiologists.
The top-performing radio public service announcements in ACR history gained 24,500 airings on 1,168 stations as well as paid articles in 2,500 newspapers. As a result, an audience of 330 million was informed of less-invasive CRC screening options. RadiologyInfo.org CTC page visits simultaneously rose 17%.
ACR email newsletters continue to keep members up to date on their specialty and the latest offerings from the ACR. The most popular is the weekly Advocacy in Action newsletter, which earned a 55% open rate in 2025. Update your newsletter preferences to make sure you’re subscribed.
Digital ads and radio PSAs during Lung Cancer Awareness Month helped nearly 52,000 at-risk people find a Lung Cancer Screening Facility near them.
HPI published 31 peer-reviewed publications addressing key ACR member priorities. These included workforce shortages, nonphysician practitioner imaging interpretation, cancer screening disparities, environmental impacts of imaging and shifts in trainee participation.
HPI published a landmark JAMA Network Open study identifying major community-level predictors of cancer disparities: poverty, environmental risk, housing challenges and physical inactivity.
ACR CRI’s leadership role in advancing the use of real-world data continued in 2025, bolstering the growth of broad and diverse datasets.
The RLI offers a variety of flexible training options to help you build the professional, leadership, and business skills needed at every stage of your career that, alongside clinical expertise, position you for long-term career success.
In 2025, nearly 1,400 radiologists engaged with one of the eight RLI programs to grow as leaders and apply these skills to navigate today’s complex practice environment.
The RLI has been an invaluable investment in my professional development. It strengthened my leadership foundation and equipped me with the financial and strategic insight necessary to lead effectively in an increasingly complex healthcare landscape.
ACR’s Commission on Patient- and Family-Centered Care (PFCC) Patient Engagement Committee created a library of animated videos to support patients and healthcare professionals interacting with imaging. Users now have access to 10 animation playlists.
The ACR can increase your understanding of lung cancer screening and improve patient care. The College provides a host of resources to assist your practice through the latest research, unique toolkits and key patient information.
In late 2025, ACR released the long-awaited BI-RADS® v2025 Manual — with standardized breast imaging terminology, report organization, assessment structure and a classification system for mammography, ultrasound, contrast-enhanced mammography (CEM) and breast MRI. The BI-RADS manual includes more than 900 clinical images, auditing and outcomes monitoring (including mammography, ultrasound, CEM and MRI), an FAQ for each section and new descriptors for ultrasound and breast implants for MRI. The update includes additional clinical images to enhance the learning experience and information on the latest imaging equipment.
The ACR launched Volunteer Link to connect more members with volunteer opportunities that fit their interests, expertise and availability. In 2025, there were more than 100 opportunities identified with 74 opportunities fulfilled by member volunteers.
