Towbin, MD, FAAP, FACR, FSIIM — two of the conference chairs for the ACR® Quality & Safety + Informatics Conference (QS+I) — discuss the focus of this dedicated gathering, Sept. 9–11 in San Diego, for those who are passionate about quality improvement, informatics and clinical operations.
What is the goal of the 2025 QS+I Conference?
QS+I is the place where the quality, safety and informatics community convenes to solve problems and improve patient outcomes. Each year, the conference brings together leaders in the field for three days of high-quality content, hands-on problem solving and networking. The conference aims to foster collaboration and drive improvement and positive change in radiology.
Who should attend the QS+I Conference?
The QS+I Conference is for physicians, non-physicians, operations experts, medical students, residents and fellows — everyone who is committed to solving problems in a systematic way using quality improvement and informatics tools. The conference is well-suited for professionals at all levels, including trainees, early- and mid-career radiologists, radiology care team members and leaders in the field. This is where like-minded radiologists and healthcare professionals gather to gain new ideas and practical strategies to solve local problems when they return home to their own institutions.
Why bring quality, safety and informatics together in one conference?
In clinical practice, we are all working together to improve care and care delivery. Providing a venue for collaborative discussions across teams — as occurs in clinical practice — simply makes sense. Shlomit A. Goldberg-Stein, MD
Director of AI, Northwell Radiology, Residency Program Director, Lenox Hill Hospital, Associate Professor of Radiology, Northwell/Hofstra School of Medicine
Shlomit A. Goldberg-Stein, MD, is an Associate Professor of Radiology and a musculoskeletal radiologist at Northwell Health/Hofstra Medical School. She serves as the Radiology Residency Program Director at Lenox Hill Hospital of Northwell Health.
Dr. Stein completed both her residency in diagnostic radiology and her fellowship in musculoskeletal imaging and intervention at the Massachusetts General Hospital of Harvard Medical School. She was a GE-SCARD LEAD fellow and has served in many leadership roles in both quality and operations, including Director of Report Quality and Structured Reporting and Director of Operational Improvement at Montefiore/Einstein in New York City.
Dr. Stein currently serves as a Conference Chair for the 2025 ACR Quality, Safety + Informatics Conference. She is a member of the New York State Radiological Society board and serves as Co-Chair of its Quality & Safety Committee. She is an also active member of the ACR Peer Learning Committee and led the creation of a pathway for ACR peer learning accreditation.
Alexander J. Towbin, MD, FAAP, FACR, FSIIM is a Professor of Radiology, the Neil D. Johnson Chair of Radiology Informatics, Associate Chief of Radiology, Associate Chief Medical Information Officer and Associate Chief of Staff at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. He is a recognized leader in pediatric radiology, imaging informatics and quality improvement. In his clinical role, Dr. Towbin specializes in pediatric abdominal imaging. His research focuses on cancer imaging, imaging of the liver, clinical informatics and quality improvement.
Dr. Towbin received his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He completed his residency in diagnostic radiology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and his fellowship in pediatric radiology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.
Apart from his current roles at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and the University of Cincinnati, Dr. Towbin is an active member of multiple organizations, including ACR, RSNA, Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine, Society for Pediatric Radiology and the Children’s Oncology Group. He has won numerous awards for his teaching, research and clinical acumen. He is a frequent speaker on a wide range of topics at meetings across the United States and the world. Dr. Towbin is well published, having authored more than 300 articles and 150 book chapters.
