The Informatics Fellowship offers you, a radiology resident or early-career professional, an outstanding opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the dynamic field of informatics. Through personalized mentoring and immersive projects, you’ll have the chance to expand your expertise and play an active role in shaping the future of healthcare technology.

As a fellow, you will work directly with top innovators at the ACR Data Science Institute®, and be exposed to cutting-edge tools and methodologies, empowering you to make a tangible impact in your career and the broader radiology field.

Applications for the 2026 Informatics Fellowship will open Nov. 1 and run through Jan. 31, 2026. The committee’s decision will be emailed to candidates by mid-February.

Fellowship Highlights

  • May 2026: The Fellow will attend the ACR 2026 Annual Meeting in Washington, DC, where they will meet with the current Informatics Fellow and serve on a Reference Committee, actively contributing to informatics-related resolutions.
  • June 2026: Attend the ACR-SIIM Data Science Summit in Pittsburgh.
  • Fall 2026 (2 days): Attend a virtual introduction with ACR® staff, where you will engage with expert teams and participate in hands-on learning projects tailored to informatics.
  • Spring 2027 (1 week): Gain real-world experience at a pilot site, observing informatics implementation in a clinical setting. During this time, you’ll also benefit from one-on-one mentoring, lectures and independent study.
  • May 2027: The Fellow will attend the ACR 2027 Annual Meeting in Washington, DC, where they will meet the new Informatics Fellow and serve on a Reference Committee, actively contributing to informatics-related resolutions.

To support your journey, the fellowship is designed to fit around your existing schedule, with flexibility in session timing. ACR will cover all travel and living expenses throughout the program.

Eligibility Requirements

The fellowship is available to fourth-year residents (R4/PGY5) and early-career professionals up to three years out of residency at the start of the fellowship. The program will connect fellows with the larger imaging informatics community and is intended for residents and early-career radiologists who have demonstrated an interest in imaging informatics but have not had significant exposure to the field at their home institutions or current organizations.
