As the academic year progresses, the ACR RFS continues to develop new ways for trainees to connect with the College, grow as leaders, and take advantage of the many educational and professional opportunities available through ACR. Let’s start with the first and foremost: the ACR Annual Meeting!
The ACR Annual Meeting continues to be one of the best opportunities for residents and fellows to engage with national radiology leadership, build connections, and learn about the future of the specialty.
This year’s meeting will feature a robust lineup of programming designed for trainees, including educational sessions, networking opportunities, and leadership discussions. Dedicated RFS programming on May 2-3 will include lectures on leadership, economics, advocacy, efficiency in radiology, and more. One highlight will be the RFS and ACR Young and Early Career Professionals Section (YPS) “Listen and Learn” session, where residents and fellows can directly share feedback with ACR leadership about priorities, needs, and opportunities for trainee engagement. The session will take place Tuesday, May 5 at 12pm ET.
On another front, the RFS Virtual Caucus is coming up soon, where we will review proposed resolutions in advance of the ACR Annual Meeting. This is an opportunity for all RFS members, including those unable to attend the Annual Meeting in person, to voice their opinions about proposed ACR policy changes. Please join us Tuesday, April 21 at 7pm ET.
One of the most valuable aspects of ACR membership is the opportunity for trainees to begin building leadership and business-of-radiology skills early in their careers.
The ACR Radiology Leadership Institute® (RLI) continues to offer several programs designed to help residents and fellows develop these skills. On-demand curated leadership resources accessible to both RFS and YPS members include the RLI Kickstart Your Career video collection and the virtual Leadership Essentials package tailored for busy residents and fellows. Finally, RLI is in the midst of the Health Care Economics Milestones Program which is an opportunity for residents to learn how radiologists are paid and about the anticipated effects of payment reform and emerging technologies. If you’re interested in participating through your residency, I encourage you to check out details for enrolling for the upcoming academic year.
Perhaps the most exciting update from RFS is the launch of our new Oral Case Presentation Resources, designed to provide residents across the country with structured preparation and exposure to the oral board format. Check out this series of short videos to learn how to showcase your knowledge, build a bulletproof differential, defend your diagnosis with confidence and keep calm and collected through the process!
For residents and fellows nearing the end of training, it’s important to remember that ACR membership continues beyond residency. Graduating trainees are encouraged visit their MyACR account to update their profile with a personal email address so they can remain connected with the College after training.
Keep in mind that early career radiologists also benefit from reduced membership dues for the first four years after graduation, making it easier to stay involved in ACR programs, committees, and leadership opportunities as you’re starting out in practice.
