The American College of Radiology® (ACR®) today announced the election of Christoph Wald, MD, PhD, MBA, FACR, chair of the ACR Board of Chancellors (BOC), and Gregory N. Nicola, MD, FACR, vice chair. Amy L. Kotsenas, MD, FACR, was re-elected Secretary Treasurer and ACR named three new BOC members.

These officers, and others to be elected by the ACR Council at ACR 2026, the College’s annual meeting May 2-6 in Washington, DC, will assume their roles following the close of that meeting.

Incoming BOC Chair

Wald was most recently BOC vice chair and chair of the ACR Commission on Informatics. He is a professor of radiology at the Mayo Clinic School of Medicine in Rochester, Minn., and senior associate consultant in the radiology department at the Mayo Clinic. Wald earned his medical degree from the University of Bonn Medical School in Germany, followed by postgraduate training in Medicine in Scotland, and in radiology at Lahey Clinic in Boston where he later served as Radiology chair and medical staff president.

“Dr. Wald is a long-time advocate for radiology with tremendous expertise in artificial intelligence, informatics and cutting-edge technologies that can help radiology professionals provide better, more efficient patient care,” said ACR CEO Dana H. Smetherman, MD, MPH, MBA, FACR. “I know he will continue to exhibit the strong leadership to move the College and radiology forward.”

Nicola long served as chair of the ACR Commission on Economics and a member of the BOC. He serves as one of only 22 physician voting members of the American Medical Association/Specialty Society Relative Value Scale Update Committee (RUC). He is a physician partner/executive in the Hackensack Radiology Group and attending radiologist within the Hackensack Meridian Health System (NJ). Nicola received his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.

“Dr. Nicola is a renowned medical economics expert and radiology leader with an in-depth knowledge of healthcare economics policy and practice,” said Smetherman. “He is an invaluable resource for the College, its members and radiology professionals nationwide.”
