May 7, 2025

More than 450 lab-coat-clad “radvocates” took to Capitol Hill May 7 as part of the annual “Hill Day” activities during ACR 2025, the College’s annual meeting in Washington DC.

The American College of Radiology® (ACR®) members took part in about 250 meetings in congressional offices dressed in their white coats – which were a big hit with members of Congress and their staff.

ACR Twitter/X (@RadiologyACR) continues to share images from these visits and encourages members and chapters to post photos and videos of their visits with lawmakers using the hashtag #ACRHillDay and #ACR2025.

College members also left their mark on Capitol Hill contributing their perspectives on key topics – including pressing decisionmakers for legislation to permanently reform Medicare physician payment and to amend the appropriate use criteria (AUC) section of the Protecting Access to Medicare Act (PAMA).

ACR members advised lawmakers that savings associated with the amended PAMA can be used to help offset the cost of implementing Medicare physician payment reform.

PAMA was enacted to reduce low-value imaging through consultation of physician-developed AUC, simplifying the consultation process for the ordering physician, reducing unnecessary imaging and saving the Medicare system and beneficiaries money.

While on the Hill, participants also presented House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN6) with the Congressional Award for Radiological Excellence (CARE Award).
