The American College of Radiology® (ACR®) continues to bring expert input to the American Medical Association (AMA) CPT® Editorial Panel (the Panel) during ongoing stakeholder listening sessions which discussed coding solution development that accommodates advanced digital technology that could lead to appropriate reimbursement for artificial intelligence (AI) tools.
The Panel’s Digital Medicine Coding Committee is considering a foundational coding solution to develop a framework for a new category of CPT codes under the Clinically Meaningful Algorithmic Analyses pathway.
The new CPT category would codify algorithmic analyses of clinically relevant patient data (e.g., biophysical signals, imaging data, lab results) to produce clinically meaningful output or conclusions that impact patient care.
ACR is a leading society in engagement with the AMA and other specialty societies to define a way to codify algorithmic analyses of clinically relevant patient data that ensures consistent coding for emerging algorithmic services in the CPT code set.
