Read moreAttendees at ACR 2026 Annual Meeting in Washington, DC will meet with members of Congress and their staff May 6, during Capitol Hill Day to advocate for top ACR® legislative priorities. Members will advocate for the No Surprises Act Enforcement Act (NSAEA), the Radiology Outpatient Ordering Transmission (ROOT) Act, and long-term Medicare payment reform.
Participants will urge lawmakers to cosponsor NSAEA, which would strengthen the No Surprises Act that protects patients from surprise medical bills. The NSAEA would ensure timely payment after dispute decisions and hold insurers accountable with penalties for late or nonpayment.
ACR members will also work to gather cosponsors for the ROOT Act. This legislation would remove barriers that have delayed the implementation of the PAMA Appropriate Use Criteria (AUC) program, helping ensure the correct imaging exam is ordered the first time and saving Medicare and patients money.
Finally, to move away from repeated short-term congressional fixes, Hill Day participants will call for long term Medicare payment stability, including: addition of an inflationary based update; changes to how Medicare applies budget neutrality in the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS), the process by which payment increases are offset by cuts elsewhere in the MPFS; and a review of policies implemented by the Medicare Access and CHIP (Children’s Health Insurance Program) Reauthorization Act of 2015.
