ACR Gears Up For Key State Legislative Issues Including AI

ACR^® representatives and members joined more than 300 physician leaders and medical society staff at the AMA State Advocacy Summit Jan. 7-9, with a focus on key healthcare issues, including protecting Medicaid, stopping harmful payer practices, preserving physician-led care, and supporting physician wellness. The College participated in the Jan. 7-9 event to ensure that radiology’s voice was heard and to strengthen partnerships across the house of medicine.

AI was a particular topic of interest at the summit. Lawmakers across the country are filing bills to regulate AI, including:

• California’s Senate Bill 813 would create an AI Standards and Safety Commission and require independent audits.
• New Mexico’s House Bill 28 calls for clear notices, explanations, appeals and disclosures when generative AI is used.
• New York introduced a package that includes an AI Bill of Rights (Assembly Bill 3265), consumer protections (AB 768 and SB 1962), and licensing rules for advanced AI systems (AB 3356, SB 8828).
• Delaware’s HB 191 would ban AI systems from being licensed as medical professionals and from using titles such as doctor or physician.
