July 18, 2024
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released the 2025 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS) proposed rule July 10, that includes a conversion factor (CF) of $32.35, which is approximately 2.8% below the current CF of $33.28. The decrease is due to the expiration of a 2.93% update Congress added to the MPFS CF for 2024.

Year-over-year reductions in the conversion factor repeatedly demonstrate that the current Medicare payment system is unsustainable. The American College of Radiology® (ACR®) continues to work with the physician and non-physician community to urge Congress to substantively reform the Medicare physician payment system via the addition of an inflationary update to the MPFS, adjustments to the MPFS budget neutrality requirements, and reforms to the Medicare Access and CHIP (Children’s Health Insurance Program) Reauthorization Act of 2015.

Congress must act to provide physicians with the fiscal stability needed to ensure seniors have access to high quality care.
