Two harmful scope of practice expansion bills in Oklahoma, House Bill (HB) 2298 and HB 2584, recently became law after the Oklahoma state legislature voted to override Gov. Kevin Stitt’s (R) executive decision to veto the bills.

While the American College of Radiology® (ACR®) is extremely disappointed with the actions of the Oklahoma state legislature, the College commends Gov. Stitt for his veto of the bills. Prior to the actions of the legislature, ACR joined the Oklahoma State Radiological Society (OSRS) in urging the governor to veto the harmful non-physician scope of practice expansion bills. HB 2298 will allow nurse practitioners, certified nurse anesthetists and nurse midwives to practice medicine independently, including full prescriptive authority. At the same time, HB 2584 will allow physician assistants to practice medicine independently, including full prescriptive authority.
