ACR® formally urged Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), to initiate a national public health awareness campaign promoting annual lung cancer screening for individuals at high risk of developing the disease.

In a recent comment letter, the College presented updated data that highlights the life-saving potential of lung cancer screening, cited emerging evidence that supports improved adherence to screening protocols, and expressed alignment with bipartisan legislation under consideration in Congress.

Despite coverage for lung cancer screening being available through Medicare and nearly all private insurers, public awareness of this critical preventive service remains alarmingly low. ACR asserts a targeted public health campaign — directed at both patients and healthcare providers — would significantly increase screening uptake and in turn improve outcomes for one of the nation’s deadliest cancers.
