The American College of Radiology® (ACR®) is charting the future of medical imaging — releasing draft Practice Parameters on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Radiology that will define how AI is integrated into clinical practice for years to come.

These draft guidelines, now open for member review, reaffirm ACR’s position as a global leader in setting the standard for safe, ethical, and effective AI adoption. These parameters are designed to provide radiologists, healthcare systems, and industry partners with a clear framework to ensure AI tools enhance, rather than compromise, quality, safety, and patient outcomes.

Shaping the Future, Not Just Responding to It

As the trusted voice of radiology, the ACR has been at the forefront of AI governance—developing tools, resources, and guidance that support informed decision-making and responsible adoption. Developed by a team of experts, this document represents the next step in that leadership, offering a nationally recognized standard that addresses:

  • Governance and accountability for AI in imaging workflows
  • Clinical validation and performance monitoring in real-world use
  • Bias mitigation and transparency in algorithm design and deployment
  • Integration strategies to improve efficiency without compromising quality
  • Ongoing quality assurance to maintain high standards over time

Your Expertise Shapes the Final Standard

ACR members have always set the benchmark for quality. These parameters are intended to serve the radiology community for years to come. That’s why your voice matters. ACR members and Society of Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) members via staff  are strongly encouraged to review the draft and provide feedback. Your insights will ensure the final document reflects the realities of clinical practice while maintaining the highest standards of patient care.

The draft and comment submission details are now available. The comment period will remain open until Sept. 26, 2025.
