Radiology Makes Big Impact at Annual American Cancer Society NLCRT Meeting

The American College of Radiology® (ACR®) participated in the American Cancer Society (ACS) National Lung Cancer Roundtable (NLCRT) annual meeting Dec. 4–5, with the goal of creating lung cancer survivors. The event each year brings together NLCRT membership, a nationwide coalition of more than 160 professional and national societies including ACR, cancer centers, government agencies, research groups, advocacy and policy organizations, and corporate associates. This year’s theme was Pathways of Care: Focusing on the Patient Experience Access the Lung Cancer Continuum.

Radiology was represented at this meeting with Ella A. Kazerooni, MD, MS, FACR, FACC, FSABI, Professor of Radiology and Internal Medicine, who serves as the Associate Chief Clinical Officer for the Diagnostic and Clinical Information Oversight Team within the University of Michigan Medical Group (UMMG) and Chair of the ACS NLCRT Steering Committee. ACR departments participated, including Economics, Government Relations, Patient- and Family-Centered Care, Quality and Safety, and the Radiology Health Equity Coalition.

This year's program featured keynote speakers Laurie Fenton Ambrose, CEO of Go2Foundation for Lung Cancer, and Eliseo Perez-Stable, MD, Director of the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities. Ms. Fenton Ambrose shared her experiences working with lung cancer policy, and Dr. Perez-Stable addressed research and clinical science gaps in diverse populations. Also, spotlighted was the second annual National Lung Cancer Screening Day (National LCS Day), which occurred on Nov. 11. National LCS Day was successfully held at facilities in 97% of states across the United States, which is an increase from 75% at last year’s event, increasing patients screened and awareness about LCS in their communities.

ACR continues to engage with NLCRT to develop new resources and advocate for the lung cancer community. Meeting participants were reminded throughout the program that patients are central to our efforts, and we continue to develop new ways to eliminate barriers to care and treatment.
