New Artificial Intelligence (AI) Economics Committee will address Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance coverage and reimbursement for radiologic AI tools.
Read moreThe American College of Radiology® (ACR®) announced that Inselspital, the University Hospital of Bern, Switzerland, is the first international institution to participate in the ACR Recognized Center for Healthcare-AI (ARCH AI) program for artificial intelligence governance in radiology.
This milestone marks ARCH AI’s expansion beyond the United States and underscores growing global alignment around the need for structured, consistent oversight of medical imaging AI. Inselspital’s participation demonstrates the importance of the ARCH-AI program as healthcare organizations worldwide seek clear standards for the safe, reliable, and patient centered use of AI.
Developed by ACR, ARCH AI helps healthcare organizations establish formal governance across the AI lifecycle — from evaluation and adoption to ongoing clinical oversight. ARCH-AI emphasizes the need for transparency, quality, and sound clinical judgment when integrating AI into radiology practice.
“Inselspital’s adoption of ARCH AI represents an important milestone for the global radiology community,” said Christoph Wald, MD, PhD, MBA, FACR, vice chair of the ACR Board of Chancellors and chair of the ACR Commission on Informatics. “As AI becomes more widely used in healthcare systems throughout the world, shared governance frameworks are essential. This achievement reflects ACR’s commitment to advancing trusted standards that support high quality patient care.”
As one of Europe’s leading academic medical centers, Inselspital has a longstanding record of innovation and clinical excellence. By implementing ARCH AI, the institution has formalized a structured approach to AI oversight aligned with clinical priorities, regulatory expectations, and quality assurance practices.
The international adoption of ARCH AI reflects a broader shift toward standardized AI governance and presents an opportunity for shared learning across regions and health systems.
ACR will continue working with international partners to expand the reach of ARCH AI and support healthcare organizations worldwide in adopting quality driven approaches to AI in radiology.
