ACR Supports NIH Funding in Fiscal Year 2025

ACR joins medical research organizations to support NIH funding and protect against cuts.

The American College of Radiology® (ACR®) joined Research!America and more than 500 organizations to voice support for National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding as Congress works on an appropriations bill to avoid a government shutdown March 14. The organizations urge prioritization of robust NIH funding in lawmakers’ federal fiscal year (FY) 2025 appropriations bill and preservation of existing protections against cuts to reimbursements for NIH grantee facilities and administrative costs. While congressional negotiations continue, funding levels for NIH and other research agencies for FY 2025 are indetermined as the government continues to operate on a continuing resolution.

The College previously reported NIH’s intent to cut research facilities and administrative reimbursement; a federal judge in Massachusetts granted a temporary restraining order Feb. 10, to 22 states that filed suit seeking to halt the implementation of the cuts. The Association of American Medical Colleges filed a separate lawsuit resulting in a temporary restraining order that expands the action nationwide. The nationwide restraining order was extended Feb. 21 and will remain in place while the judge decides whether to issue a preliminary injunction that would block NIH from implementing the cuts as multiple lawsuits by states attorneys general and nonprofit organizations move forward.
