American College of Radiology® (ACR®) Committee on Drugs and Contrast Media member Pranay Krishnan, MD, spoke about radiology’s response to the recent contrast media shortage at the Feb. 7 National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine Forum on Medical and Public Health Preparedness for Disasters and Emergencies.

Dr. Krishnan, the Vice Chair of Operations, Quality and Safety at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, presented a case study that outlined:

  • Size and scope of the problem.
  • Consequences for healthcare delivery.
  • Response of hospital systems.
  • Contrast supply chain vulnerabilities.

Dr. Krishnan then discussed whether we are better prepared for such a shortage in the future.
