Sept. 11, 2024
A coalition of about 120 physician and other healthcare provider organizations led by the American College of Radiology® (ACR®) sent a letter to Congressional leadership Sept. 10, calling for action to blunt a proposed 2.8% reduction to the Medicare conversion factor included in the 2025 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule (MPFS) Proposed Rule. The coalition asks leaders to ensure Congress legislate payments for 2025 and beyond that are adjusted each year with an inflationary update.

The proposed reduction for 2025 and the continual need year-over-year for payment patches makes quite obvious that the Medicare physician payment system is broken.

The coalition is united in stressing the need for a Medicare Economic Index-based inflationary update to the MPFS, to at the very least allow payments to keep pace with the true cost of operating a medical practice.
