CMS Releases 2027 Medicare Advantage Proposed Rule

CMS recently released the CY 2027 Medicare Advantage and Part D Proposed Rule, which outlines significant policy and technical changes for Medicare Advantage (MA), Part D, and related programs for Contract Year 2027.

In a detailed summary, ACR® outlines major provisions including:

• Codifying Inflation Reduction Act changes for Part D
• Updates to the Star Ratings System
• Enhancements to Enrollment and Special Needs Plans
• Policies to Reduce Regulatory Buden in the MA program

CMS is seeking stakeholder input through several Requests for Information including risk adjustment modernization, Star Ratings policy changes, integrated care for dually eligible beneficiaries, and well-being and nutrition.

Stakeholders should review the proposed changes and submit comments to CMS by January 26, 2026. These provisions aim to enhance beneficiary experience, improve care quality, and reduce administrative burden while modernizing MA and Part D programs.
