ACR® recently participated in the National Conference on Radiation Control organized by the Conference on Radiation Control Program Directors (CRCPD). ACR members and staff joined state and local regulators, federal partners and specialty societies to discuss ways to improve radiation protection. During the meeting, the CRCPD Chair Patrick Mulligan recognized ACR for its longstanding partnership and commitment to radiation protection.

During the opening session, longtime ACR member Thomas G. Ruckdeschel, MS, DABR, received the prestigious John C. Villforth Award for his contributions to radiation safety in medical imaging, and he correspondingly delivered the John C. Villforth Lecture. Mr. Ruckdeschel has served since 1996 on numerous ACR committees and currently is Chair of the Subcommittee on Breast X-ray Imaging Physics.

ACR speakers also shared updates during the Healing Arts Council Session. Georgia Spear, MD, MS, Chair of the ACR Committee on Government Relations – Breast Imaging, outlined the changes and new material in the ACR BI-RADS v2025 manual. In addition, Dustin Gress, ACR Senior Advisor, Medical Physics, presented on the JACR article, “Ranking the Relative Importance of Image Quality Features in CT by Consensus Survey,” and Mark Supanich, PhD, DABR, FAAPM, presented on safety and regulatory considerations for Y90 medical events.
