Read moreCommunities Crushing Cancer (CCC) continues to expand its reach as a dynamic, resident-led initiative focused on raising cancer awareness and increasing cancer screening rates across the country.
What began as a statewide effort involving eight residency programs in Massachusetts has grown into a national patient outreach event. Today, CCC engages nearly 80 radiology and radiation oncology residency programs, along with medical students, in community-based education and outreach designed to encourage life-saving cancer screenings.
The program provides a unique opportunity for resident physicians and medical students to take an active role in community engagement, patient education and cancer prevention efforts. Through outreach events across the country, participants help connect individuals with trusted information about cancer risks, screening guidelines and the importance of early detection.
“Education and awareness about cancer detection has the power to save lives and catch disease early through appropriate screenings,” said Danika Baskar, radiology resident physician at Emory and co-founder of the Emory Radiology BLAiR Track.
By empowering the next generation of physicians to lead outreach efforts in their communities, CCC continues to build a national movement dedicated to reducing cancer disparities, increasing awareness and helping more people access recommended screenings.
