ACR Backs Ultrasound Guidance for Trigger Point Care
ACR urges Medicare to cover ultrasound guidance for highârisk trigger point injections to improve safety and accuracy.
Read moreACR® joined a multisociety initiative to submit formal comments to National Government Services, Inc. (NGS) regarding its proposed Local Coverage Determination (LCD), Thermal Destruction of the Intraosseous Basivertebral Nerve (BVN) for Vertebrogenic Low Back Pain (DL40302). The College previously provided detailed comments about this clinical issue, particularly as interventional procedures for low back pain face increased scrutiny by Medicare Administrative Contractors that often lead to more restrictive coverage policies.
ACR co-signed letters submitted by the Society of Interventional Radiology and the Multisociety Pain Workgroup about this proposed LCD. The comments commend NGS for advancing access to an evidence supported therapy for vertebrogenic chronic low back pain, while recommending revisions to ensure the LCD reflects current clinical evidence, supports appropriate utilization and avoids unnecessary barriers to care.
NGS will review all public comments before issuing a final LCD. ACR continues to track and monitor national and local coverage determinations relevant to radiology to ensure coverage policies reflect current evidence and support high quality, patient centered care.
