ACR Collaborates in Advocacy Efforts With AMA

ACR recently participated in the AMA State Legislative Roundtable on “National Medical Specialty Societies: Campaigns and Priorities,” a meeting in which healthcare associations discussed shared and anticipated priorities in upcoming legislative sessions. Eugenia Brandt, ACR Senior Government Relations Director, participated in a panel to discuss current legislative issues and ways specialty societies and state medical associations can work together.

Brandt highlighted the important role radiology and other specialty volunteers play in building those relationships. Many radiologists serve on state medical society committees, councils, boards and leadership teams, helping make sure radiology has a voice in the broader house of medicine. State medical associations bring strong legislative relationships and a broad physician perspective, while member volunteers bring clinical expertise and firsthand knowledge of issues affecting their specialty, particularly in fast-moving areas such as AI in healthcare.

Brandt encouraged stakeholders to keep communication open and be willing to share ideas and feedback on strategies that support physician-led care. Radiologists who are active in their state medical societies can be especially effective advocacy partners, helping bring the specialty’s perspective to larger policy discussions while strengthening relationships across organized medicine.

ACR staff can help support that work by connecting chapters with colleagues in other medical organizations, identifying opportunities to engage, and sharing advocacy resources and legislative information.
