Read moreACR® joined the Ad Hoc Group for Medical Research and more than 500 organizations to voice support for National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding in fiscal year (FY) 2027. The coalition urges Congress to provide at least $51.303 billion for the NIH, which would represent a $4.087 billion or 8.7% increase over the enacted funding level for NIH in FY 2026.
The coalition also expressed its appreciation that Congress approved an increase of $415 million (0.9%) for NIH in FY 2026, despite a challenging fiscal environment. Research funded by NIH leads to medical breakthroughs, including radiology, that advance patient care, including early detection, diagnosis and treatment of disease. The letter provides examples of benefits of NIH funding increases, including stimulating local and regional economies, spurring new industries, strengthening the United States’ global competitiveness, supporting national security, creating viable career paths for the next generation of scientists, and generating additional high-quality jobs in communities across the country.
