Read moreACR® is urging Congress to fund programs that support the mental health of healthcare workers. The College recently cosigned a letter to the relevant U.S. House and Senate appropriations subcommittees asking for at least $45 million in federal fiscal year 2027 for programs created under the Lorna Breen Act.
The act works to strengthen mental and behavioral health support for healthcare workers across the country.
The law is named for Lorna Breen, MD, FACEP, who died by suicide in 2020. Dr. Breen was chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the New York Presbyterian Allen Hospital.
ACR supports continued funding to reduce the stigma around seeking mental healthcare and expanded education and training that address stress and burnout in the healthcare workforce.
