Accreditation
Introduction
Since 1987, ACR has accredited more than 20,000 facilities, including more than 10,000 practices in ten different imaging modalities. The ACR offers programs in all modalities now mandated for accreditation under the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act (MIPPA) (CT, MRI, breast MRI, nuclear medicine and PET) as well as under the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA). Our streamlined application process has cut approval time in half. The ACR accreditation evaluation is usually completed within 90 days of image submission.

Worried About Missing the 2012 CMS Accreditation Deadline?
Providers of Advanced Diagnostic Imaging Services (ADIS) still have critical questions in advance of the Jan. 1, 2012 accreditation deadline. For example, what if you have not received ADIS accreditation but still want to apply? What if you are already accredited and you add a new imaging unit, open a new site, or start offering another imaging modality?
- If you apply for ACR accreditation in October, November or December of 2011, ACR will work with you to complete the accreditation process within 90 days of image submission.
- If your facility is accredited in one ADIS modality by Jan. 1, 2012, you have a 120-day grace period to gain accreditation for a new unit, location or modality – and receive CMS reimbursements.
Urgent Notice for Facilities Subject to MIPPA
The Jan. 1, 2012 MIPPA deadline for achieving accreditation is quickly approaching. We strongly recommend that you submit the required testing materials and images immediately.
We are committed to doing everything within our control to assist sites with the accreditation process. However, due to the limited amount of time remaining before Jan. 1, 2012, we cannot guarantee that your site will complete the accreditation process before the MIPPA deadline. Please review the testing instructions carefully. Double-check your images and application materials to ensure you include all of the required images and data. Failure to follow instructions or an incomplete application will delay your accreditation.
