This three-day course is designed to provide radiologists with the skills and understanding necessary to interpret high-resolution CT of the chest for diffuse lung diseases. Participants will receive lectures on all aspects of HRCT interspersed with hands-on interpretation of related cases. Faculty provide direct supervision and assistance with hands-on interpretation at each learner’s workstation, delivering a personalized learning experience for every attendee. The cases are designed to be reviewed at the learner’s preferred pace, and faculty are available to discuss any questions while also sharing how they approach cases in the real world.

Diffuse lung diseases are encountered by all radiologists; therefore, our course target audience is broad. Any radiologist interpreting chest CTs who want to update their knowledge can benefit from this course. The case material covers a wide range of pathologies including fibrotic lung disease, smoking-related lung disease, lung-injury patterns, nodular lung disease, small and large airway disease, pulmonary vascular disease, and other less common entities often confused with diffuse lung disease.

The knowledge gained in this course will allow learners to develop a practical and structured approach to interpreting CT scans for diffuse lung diseases. The integration of clinical, radiologic, and pathologic information will be emphasized.

Program and Learning Objectives


At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the clinical indications and optimal technique for performing high resolution CT of the chest.
  2. Apply standard terminology to describe thoracic imaging findings.
  3. Apply a systematic approach to CT differential diagnosis based on the pattern and distribution of abnormalities.
  4. Recognize the clinical features of common interstitial lung diseases, including fibrotic lung disease, smoking-related lung disease, lung-injury patterns, nodular lung disease, small and large airway disease, pulmonary vascular disease, and other less common entities often confused with diffuse lung disease.
  5. Explain the significance of multidisciplinary discussion for the diagnosis of interstitial lung diseases and understand the mechanisms involved in collaborative decision-making and treatment planning, promoting holistic patient care.

These enhanced learning objectives provide a clear and comprehensive framework for participants to gain a deeper understanding of high-resolution CT of the chest, diagnostic techniques, interstitial lung diseases, and the collaborative aspect of patient management.
