ACR Achieves Highest Continuing Medical Education Accreditation Status

The American College of Radiology® (ACR®) was reviewed by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education® (ACCME®) and awarded Accreditation with Commendation for six years as a provider of continuing medical education (CME) for physicians.

The highest accreditation status and longest accreditation term offered by ACCME, Accreditation with Commendation is awarded to providers that demonstrate exemplary performance, including demonstrated compliance with all Core Accreditation Criteria and eight commendation criteria.

This designation recognizes the achievements of organizations that advance inter-professional collaborative practice, address public health priorities, create behavioral change, show leadership, leverage educational technology, and demonstrate the impact of education on healthcare professionals and patients.

“Achieving the highest level of CME accreditation is a testament to the medical community and our members that the ACR is dedicated to providing radiologists with the best possible CME opportunities to promote quality improvement,” said William T. Thorwarth Jr., MD, FACR, CEO of ACR.

ACCME System accreditation assures the medical community and the public that ACR delivers education that is: relevant to clinicians’ needs; evidence-based; evaluated for effectiveness; and independent of commercial influence.

ACR has been accredited by ACCME for more than 30 years. In 2022, ACR offered 556 accredited activities and 3,700 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Approximately 524,000 learners completed ACR activities in 2022.

“The ACR and the ACR Commission on Publications and Lifelong Learning have worked tirelessly to enable the College to achieve this exceptional accreditation status,” said Lori A. Deitte, MD, FACR, chair of the ACR Commission on Publications and Lifelong Learning. “We are proud to provide the highest quality educational offerings to help move radiology and medicine forward.”

ACCME accreditation is a voluntary, self-regulatory system that employs a rigorous process for evaluating institutions' CME programs according to standards that reflect the values of the educator community and aim to accelerate learning, inspire change and champion improvement in healthcare.
