The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), an agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, has created the Provider Relief Bureau to help manage and distribute the provider relief fund (PRF) that was implemented in response to the COVID-19 public health emergency. HRSA’s reorganization plan has been published in the Federal Register.
The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, the Paycheck Protection Program and Health Care Advancement Act, and the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act appropriated funds for the Provider Relief Fund. The PRF serves those who diagnose, test or care for individuals with COVID-19 and have healthcare related expenses and lost revenue due to COVID-19.
Providers automatically receive or apply for PRF payments. As of May 28, more than $119 billion has been obligated to more than 410,000 unique providers about 650,000 payments. Providers must attest to terms and conditions to receive payments.
