Over the course of seven months, residents complete various online and in-person activities. Kickstart Your Career

  1. Description: The RLI Kickstart Your Career workshop is a full-day event that provide residents with valuable, career-development skills and advice related to interviewing, identifying the best industry setting for themselves, selecting a good mentor, and how to succeed in that first year. The workshop also features an interactive, small-group mock interview session with faculty members, a panel of early career radiologists representing various subspecialties, all while providing an opportunity for attendees to network with both expert faculty and peers.

  4. Testimonials:

The mock interviews helped me to understand where I needed work and what questions I should reflect upon more in preparation for interviews.

The ACR “Kickstart Your Career” Leadership Seminar provided me a refreshing and informative opportunity to directly interact with the ACR leadership as well as prominent radiologists from academic, government/military, and private practice organizations to discuss the current job market, the important considerations when choosing a career in academic versus private/community practice, and the future trajectory of radiology. Very few opportunities exist during residency training that offer this kind of hands-on workshop with direct coaching to better position myself to face the challenges of transitioning into the "real-world" practice of radiology. I am confident this workshop provided valuable tools which will serve me well in the my first year as a rookie attending, and I encourage my peers and senior residents to take advantage of future sessions and similar programs offered by the ACR!

Maximizing Your Influence and Impact

  1. Description: This live online course was first offered in 2017-2018 and provided participants with a strong foundation of knowledge and skills to ensure confidence in making meaningful contributions and being recognized as a valued asset to the leadership team. For 2019-2020 we will once again present the course in three modules/chapters. The Hospital Board Room is outwardly focused and intended to orient the new leader to topics that are commonly encountered and of paramount importance in hospital board meetings, medical executive committees, and other governance bodies. Stewarding the Department is inwardly focused upon leading and managing colleagues to advance departmental performance and respond to environmental changes and larger organizational priorities. The final chapter leverages the first two chapters to Influence Change at the Hospital Level. Because medical imaging is resource intensive, affects fundamental aspects of efficient care delivery, and provides critical inputs to patient management, radiologists must be prepared to inform and influence decisions.

Chapter Meetings, Scholarships, and Resources

In addition to the above programs that have been developed to help radiologists at specific stages of their careers, the RLI also engages radiologists through other resources and opportunities such as the RLI Chapter speaker program, Chapter Scholarships for RLI, the Power Hour Webinar Series, and the Taking the Lead podcasts. These opportunities are continuously being developed and curated throughout the year to ensure the RLI remains a comprehensive resource for all radiologists.

Chapter Speaker Program

Many ACR chapters have benefited from including RLI speakers at their chapter meetings. Our speakers know their “leadership stuff” and are anxious to share it with chapter members.  Take a look at our current topic catalog RLI Speakers for ACR Chapters.

To date, RLI faculty have presented more than 83 RLI lectures at more than 30 ACR state chapter meetings.

*The RLI provides an honorarium for RLI faculty to speak to chapter attendees. The chapter would be responsible for the faculty travel and lodging expenses.

Chapter Scholarships for RLI

Over the past five years, the RLI has hosted more than 112 scholarship winners from more than 14 ACR chapters to attend various RLI events. These chapters established RLI scholarship funds to support their members' leadership and career development.

By establishing a scholarship fund to provide financial assistance for residents, fellows and/or members-at-large to attend a variety of RLI programs, chapters are providing a leadership track for their chapter’s members. In doing so, chapters are investing in both their chapter’s future as well as radiologists in their state by ensuring there are strong leaders who are trained on how to effectively advocate locally on behalf of radiology. Additionally, it will help prepare them to step into key decision-making positions that will have a lasting and positive impact on the future of radiology.

RLI Chapter scholarships:
• Prepare members for key leadership roles throughout their careers
• Highlight leadership as a priority to identify and attract prospective leaders
• Plan for seamless succession of key positions
• Provide a unique benefit to your members that sets your chapter apart from other professional societies
• Teach business and leadership skills

The following ACR chapters currently provide, or have provided, RLI scholarship opportunities to their members.
