January 2021: ACR RBMA Practice Leaders Forum Keynote – Leading in Times of Crisis

As part of the 2021 ACR-RBMA Practice Leaders Forum, this lecture reviews the unique aspects of leading through crisis. The differences between leadership during normal operations and during an emergency, including natural disasters like hurricanes and the COVID-19 pandemic, are explored. The importance of lessons learned from prior crises in planning for future disasters are also be reviewed.

After watching this webinar, you will be able to:

  • Develop disaster plans for Radiology departments to manage future crises
  • Differentiate between strategies for normal operations and those needed during and following a crisis
  • Identify the emotional impact of disasters on employees and help team members maintain well-being during times of crisis
  • Evaluate and take advantage of opportunities that arise following a crisis, including removing barriers associated with legacy thinking and reluctance to change of department members

Dana Smetherman, MD, MPH, MBA, FACR is a Diagnostic Radiologist who specializes in breast imaging. She is Chair of the Department of Radiology and an Associate Medical Director for the Medical Specialties at Ochsner Medical Center – New Orleans. Dr. Smetherman also chairs the Breast Commission of the American College of Radiology (ACR) and is a member of the Board of Chancellors of the ACR. She has served as President of the Radiological Society of Louisiana, ACR Councilor from Louisiana, Board Member for the National Accrediting Program of Breast Centers, Chair of the Technical Exhibits Committee of the Radiological Society of North America, Advisor to the Current Procedural Terminology Panel of the American Medical Association, Chair of the Breast Economics Committee of the ACR, and Board Member and Schools and Scholarships Chair for the Harvard Club of Louisiana. Dr. Smetherman has given numerous presentations and has multiple publications in the areas of breast imaging and health care economics.
