In this episode, Dr. Norman Beauchamp, Dean of Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and Associate Provost and Assistant Vice President for Health Affairs at Michigan State University, talks about his time as Vice Chairman of the Johns Hopkins Department of Radiology and later, his appointment as Chair of Radiology at the University of Washington in Seattle at the age of 38. He discusses how goal setting, connection, compassion and a commitment to quality prepared him to take on his current role at Michigan State University during a time of crisis and address the delicate balance between healing wounds of the past while driving innovation and optimism for the future.

About Norman Beauchamp, Jr., MD, MHS

In October of 2016, Dr. Beauchamp became dean of the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. Prior to this career change, he was a professor and chairperson of the Department of Radiology at the University of Washington, a position he assumed in 2002. He served as vice chairperson and chairperson of the University of Washington Faculty Senate, was president of the clinical practice of 1,600 physicians employed by the university, and was medical director of the Seattle/King County Clinic, which provided dental, vision and medical care to thousands of low-income and uninsured patients. Dr. Beauchamp also served as professor of neurological surgery and industrial and systems engineering at UW.
