Since 2011, the ACR Dose Index Registry (DIR) has helped clinicians and facilities improve the quality of patient care by collecting CT dose indices through automated data transmission and leveraging that data to provide feedback to participants and establish national benchmarks.
The DIR has already helped improve patient care nationally through development of size-specific Diagnostic Reference Levels and Achievable Dose guidelines for the 10 most common adult CT examinations.
In addition to using DIR for sites to analyze their CT dose indices, the ACR is now piloting three new modules that will allow facilities to compare additional dose indices to regional and national values. The new DIR modules will also allow radiology practices to optimize radiation doses using advanced data visualization tools for:
- Digital radiography
- Nuclear medicine/PET
Along with the current CT module, these three new modules will be available to DIR participants without an additional registry fee.
