DBT Accreditation Announcement

The ACR expects to begin accrediting all previously FDA-approved Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT) units soon. Rather than submitting an application to the FDA certificate extension program for DBT units, ACR-accredited facilities can now apply for DBT accreditation with the ACR. Watch the Mammography Accreditation web page for an announcement about when facilities can begin submitting applications for these units.

Here’s what you need to know once ACR begins accepting DBT applications:

  • Units capable of DBT must go through the accreditation process for both DBT and 2D FFDM
  • If you are currently in the mammography accreditation renewal process with the ACR — Add the DBT system to your accreditation at this time. Once approved, all of your units will receive an ACR Accreditation expiration date that is three years from your current expiration date.
  • If your MQSA certificate expires within eight months — Add the DBT system to your accreditation at the time of renewal. Your facility must renew the accreditation for all your existing mammography units (as well as accredit your DBT unit) at this time. Once approved, all of your units will receive an ACR Accreditation expiration date that is three years from your current expiration date.
  • If your facility has more than 13 months left on your MQSA certificate — Add the DBT system to your accreditation at the time of renewal.
  • If you have a new DBT system — You must start the accreditation process with the ACR prior to use.

If you have questions about DBT accreditation, please call the ACR at 1-800-227 6440 or email mamm-accred@acr.org.
