ACR Practice Parameters and Technical Standards

The ACR Council considered a total of 50 resolutions at ACR 2020. During the meeting, 46 resolutions were adopted, including 29 revised ACR Practice Parameters and Technical Standards (PP & TS) and one new PP: ACR-ACNM-ASTRO-SNMMI Practice Parameter for Lutetium-177 (Lu-177) Dotatate Therapy. Two PP documents — the new ACR Practice Parameter for the Performance of Preoperative Image-Guided Localization in the Breast and the revised ACR-SIR Practice Parameter for the Performance of Angiography, Angioplasty, and Stenting for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Renal Artery Stenosis in Adults — were referred for further revision. Several of the PPs were a result of collaborative efforts between the ACR and 16 other medical societies.

The new and revised PP & TS will be available on the ACR website upon receipt of all final approvals from collaborating societies, but no later than September 2020. The updated PPs will be effective on October 1, 2020.

In addition to these 31 documents, there were five TSs (two new and three revised) and three revised PPs, up for approval by the Board of Chancellors (BOC) and Council Steering Committee (CSC) during the ACR 2020 meeting. Both of the new TSs and one revised TS were approved (ACR–AAPM Technical Standard for Diagnostic Medical Physics Performance Monitoring of Dual-Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry (DXA) Equipment, ACR–AAPM Technical Standard for Diagnostic Medical Physics Performance Monitoring of Stereotactic/Tomosynthesis-Guided Breast Biopsy Systems, and ACR–AAPM Technical Standard for the Performance of Low-Dose-Rate Brachytherapy Physics, respectively). These documents will be posted by mid-June 2020 and take effect August 1, 2020.

The other five documents that are included in the alternative approval process were referred for additional revision. Assuming the revisions are completed as expected, the documents will be submitted for inclusion on the agenda of the fall BOC and CSC meetings for approval consideration.
