The Alliance for Quality Computed Tomography (AQCT) has released its new Routine Pediatric Chest CT and Routine Pediatric Abdomen and Pelvis CT protocols.

AQCT is a working group of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM).

The working group includes academic and consulting medical physicists who specialize in CT imaging, representatives of each of the major CT scanner manufacturers, and liaisons to the American College of Radiology (ACR), American Society of Radiology Technologists (ASTRO) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The alliance members consider these protocols reasonable and task-appropriate and the settings representative of typical clinical values, even though they may not always match default protocols. The protocols represent a sampling of currently available scanner models and are not intended to provide comprehensive information for all available scanner models.
