The ACR Appropriateness Criteria® are evidence-based guidelines to assist referring physicians and other providers in making the most appropriate imaging or treatment decision for a specific clinical condition. By employing these guidelines, providers enhance quality of care and contribute to the most efficacious use of radiology.

The ACR has undertaken an initiative to facilitate the use of the Appropriateness Criteria in order entry and decision support applications.  This process has included creating a machine-consumable version of the Appropriateness Criteria and distributing that content within a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA).  Further information about the Appropriateness Criteria and access methods can be found at http://www.acr.org/Quality-Safety/Appropriateness-Criteria.
