After two years of virtual gatherings, we’ve returned to our first-ever hybrid annual meeting format — and #ACR2022 was certainly worth the wait. The joy of seeing so many of you again in our nation’s capital and the energy surrounding our 99th annual meeting was palpable!
We welcomed 172 Fellows during Sunday’s Convocation ceremony. I was inspired to witness this record number of members who have earned this prestigious honor — something that only 15% of members have achieved. Congratulations to our new Fellows!
The ACR Council considered 51 and adopted 49 resolutions. I’m thrilled to share the passing vote on Resolution 13, which recommends that diagnostic radiology, interventional radiology, radiation oncology, medical physics, and nuclear medicine practices and departments strive to provide 12 weeks of paid family/medical leave in a 12-month period for their attending physicians, medical physicists and members-in-training. The Economics Forum provided attendees a critical insight into the current state of radiology economics. Gregory N. Nicola, MD, FACR, moderated two panels comprised of eight experts, including Michael Booker, MD; Melissa L. Chen, MD; Sammy Chu, MD, FACR; Richard Heller, MD; Joshua Hirsch, MD, FACR, FSIR, FSNIS; Andrew Moriarity, MD; Lauren Nicola, MD; and Kurt A. Schoppe, MD. The group discussed economic and health policy challenges facing radiology, and the organization-wide and individual opportunities in which we can address them.
During the Moreton Lecture, we heard from Bridgette McInnis-Day, Former Executive at Google Cloud and SAP, and panelists Dana Smetherman, MD, MPH, MBA, FACR; Captain (Ret.) Steve Ferrara, MD, FACR; McKinley Glover, MD; and Monica J. Wood, MD, on transformational leadership. Each speaker shared their unique pathway to leadership, highlighting the power of transformational leadership in various career stages and industries. The powerful final words of Ms. McInnis-Day’s Moreton Lecture encouraged attendees to leverage the ACR to unify, embrace and lead the future of radiology — something which I believe we can all impact, regardless of where we are in our journey. On the heels of #ACR2022, I feel strongly about the bright future of our specialty. I’m inspired by our highly engaged medical students, residents and fellows rising into leadership roles, and our fierce policy and economics advocates and YOU. We are all working together to achieve the same goal — advancing the practice of radiology.
