Despite ACR patient safety concerns and warnings against unnecessary waste of health care resources, new accreditation standards from The Joint Commission (TJC) will require all individuals “who use fluoroscopic equipment” and “who perform diagnostic [CT] examinations” to “participate in ongoing education that includes annual training.”
During the spring 2018 public comment period, the ACR submitted comments from the ACR Commission on Interventional & Cardiovascular Imaging and Commission on Medical Physics to the TJC on this issue and other proposed updates.
Many of the recommendations from the ACR Commissions were accepted and implemented into the updated standards. The updates to TJC accreditation standards go into effect Jan. 1, 2019.
