The American Medical Association (AMA) CPT® Editorial Panel accepted at its September meeting a Category III code proposal led by the American College of Radiology (ACR) for 3D anatomic modeling. The new Category III codes will be effective July 1, 2019.
Additional Category I code proposals for pericardiocentesis and pericardial drainage procedures, SPECT/CT, and hemodialysis vessel mapping were co-sponsored by the ACR and accepted by the Panel. The newly approved Category I codes will be available January 1, 2020.
The ACR extends special thanks to CPT advisors, Mark Alson, MD, FACR (ACR), Timothy Crummy, MD, FACR (Radiological Society of North America), Eric Rubin, MD (American Roentgen Ray Society), and Andrew Degnan, MD (ACR), for their dedication and hard work while leading a coalition of experts. The code proposal for 3D printing included multiple radiology specialty societies and was supported by Frank J. Rybicki MD, PhD, FACR (University of Ottawa), and Jane Matsumoto, MD (Mayo Clinic).
